Mustang Tennis Defeats Brandon 7-1
Updated on 09/14/2022 | Justin Thomas
The boys tennis team played their first league contest of the season today, visiting an improved Brandon team on a beautiful summer afternoon. Sean Culhane, Briar Wiskur, Chris Gaffney, and Schaefer Wiskur continued to play strong tennis at the singles flight. Together as a unit, they have gone 15-1 on the season at the singles flights. For the first time this season, we got a glimpse of the doubles lineup that should carry us through to the regional tournament. There was some strong play from our opponent, but the doubles flights stepped up to the plate and took care of business. The season is young, and we certainly have plenty of growth ahead of us in our quest to qualify for the state tournament. Winning their first varsity contest of their career today was the 5 doubles team of Lucas Atkin and Blake Burger, defeating their opponent 8-0 in exhibition play. Today's Mustang of the Match goes to Sean Culhane for his in game ability to dissect what his opponent was doing to him, and then making the required adjustments without input from the coaches. This allowed Sean to cruise to a 6-4. 6-1 victory over a solid, crafty player. The Mustangs record is now 3-0-1 (1-0-0). They next play at Holly on Thursday, September 5th, starting at 4pm. Go Mustangs!!!
