Our last inductee in the athlete category of our inaugural Hall of Fame class is one of our most decorated female athletes ever, Kelly Shumate. A 1983 grad, Kelly blazed an incredible path on the cross country course and track while leading the Mustangs to new heights with her incredible abilities. Kelly was a four-time All State honoree in cross country and a five-time All-State honoree in track. In track, she holds the school record in the 800, the 1600, and the 3200 while capturing the 1982 MHSAA State Championship in track. As good as she was in track, she may have been even better on the cross country course where she led the Mustangs to a 1980 MHSAA State Cross Country team Runner-up finish and captured individual State Championships in both 1981 and 1982. After graduating as the Valedictorian of her 1983 class, she accepted a scholarship to Western Michigan University where she helped lead the Broncos to three MAC Championships and earn MAC All-Conference three times over an illustrious running career. Clio Area Schools is proud to call Kelly Shumate a Mustang!
